Attached, I am sending you a press release.
Traffic project Kohlenstraße/Poststraße successfully completed
The reconstruction work on Kohlenstraße as well as the traffic calming measures on Poststraße have been successfully completed. With the final approval by the State Office for Road Construction (LfS), the joint traffic project is now officially concluded.
As part of the measure, the traffic routing was reorganized in several street areas. In Kohlenstraße, a lane coming from Schlachthofstraße runs straight through the intersection Kohlenstraße/Rickertstraße towards Otto-Toussaint-Straße. At the same time, the traffic routing at the intersection Kohlenstraße/Rickertstraße/St.-Barbara-Straße was adjusted.
An essential part of the project was the traffic calming of Poststraße. From now on, one lane will be available for road users there, and the speed limit is 30 km/h. Conditions have also been improved for cyclists: While cyclists heading towards Rohrbach share the road with motorized traffic, a separate bike lane has been created for the opposite direction.
The measures are part of the overall concept "Traffic Calming in the City Center." The aim was to direct through traffic more strongly via Kohlenstraße and the Inner Ring in the future, thereby noticeably relieving the city center areas.
“With the completion of this important transport project, we are implementing another building block of our city center concept. Initial experiences show that traffic flows significantly better from west to east through the urban area. At the same time, we have improved the quality of stay in Poststraße and strengthened the conditions for cyclists,” explains Mayor Dr. Ulli Meyer.
Markus Schmitt adds…
Previous traffic observations also confirm the planners' expectations. The new traffic routing distributes traffic more selectively. In particular, the shifting of traffic flows to Kohlenstraße and the detour via the Inner Ring help to relieve the city center and improve overall traffic flow.
The traffic project was implemented for approximately 1 million euros and funded by the Ministry of Environment, Climate Protection, Mobility, Agriculture and Consumer Protection.
