On Saturday evening at around 23:20, several emergency calls from visitors of the town festival in Wehrden to the police were received, reporting that a masked man had just shot into the air with a firearm on the Wehrden Platz and then fled on foot.
In the framework of immediately initiated search measures, the attacker could be intercepted by police only minutes later at approximately 500 meters from the restricted area. He was an 18-year-old man from Völklingen. A storm helmet and a tear gas weapon were found on him.
The subsequent investigations revealed that the 18-year-old wanted to intimidate his ex-girlfriend's companion for committing the crime. Both had celebrated together at the town festival in Werdin.
The 18-year-old was relieved from the police measures after the teargas weapon and the combat helmet were confirmed. Investigation procedures against him have been initiated due to suspicion of endangering and violation of the weapons law.
