On the 20th, the title of city champion in traffic-safe cycling was contested at the Youth Traffic School Völklingen. The traditional event is organized annually by the city of Völklingen in close collaboration with the traffic police of Saarland.
Children from the 4th grades of primary schools in Völklingen and surrounding areas such as Gersweiler, Püttlingen, and Großrosseln took part. They had all completed their cycling training at the youth traffic school with excellent results – zero or a maximum of one penalty point – and thus qualified for the tournament.
First place was secured by Aron Schmitt from Ludweiler / Lauterbach Primary School. Second place went to Mathilda Hirschfelder from Gersweiler Primary School. Third place was taken by Nele Hübschen from Viktoria Primary School in Püttlingen. The top two winners also qualified for the state championship. All participants were able to look forward to certificates and trophies. These were presented by Mayor Stephan Tautz.
Material prizes were donated by the Globus hardware store as well as the city of Völklingen. Catering was also well taken care of: while Globus Völklingen provided sausage donations, a private donor supplemented the offer with cakes. The winner was also allowed to take home a brand new bicycle – donated by the city of Völklingen, the health initiative "Völklingen lives healthily" of the VHS Völklingen, and provided by the bike shop Bikesport Scheid in Lebach.
The city of Völklingen and the traffic police thank all participants, helpers
and supporters who contributed to the success of this event.
