Around 21:50 pm, passers-by noticed a noticeable steam on the market square. Upon closer inspection, they found that a hydrant valve had burst. The hydrant was set up for the Christmas market supply. Uncontrolled water flowed from the hydrant. Due to the strong frost, the water outflow caused a mirror-like road surface in the area of the market square and in parts of Lindenstraße.
The passers-by alerted the firefighters at the equipment house, who were there after their weekly training session.
Two firefighters dared to enter the water fountain and quickly turned off the water supply with a hydrant key. Meanwhile, the fire department secured the mirror-like dangerous area. Afterwards, the municipal works yard spread the area extensively.
The police and the city utilities supported the operation.
