Blue-green algae in the Deutschmühlenweiher: Pedal boat operations in the Franco-German Garden temporarily suspended
Due to a strong development of blue-green algae in the Deutschmühlenweiher in the Franco-German Garden (DFG), pedal boat rentals are temporarily suspended.
This measure serves to protect the health of visitors. When blue-green algae occur in higher concentrations, substances can be released that may cause skin and mucous membrane irritation as well as other health complaints. Direct contact with contaminated water should therefore be avoided.
Blue-green algae are not algae in the strict sense, but bacteria that can multiply rapidly especially in high temperatures, intense sunlight, and high nutrient levels in the water. They often appear as greenish to bluish-green streaks or a carpet-like coating on the water surface.
The situation is continuously monitored. As soon as the water quality in the Deutschmühlenweiher improves again and use is safe, pedal boat operations will resume.
Visitors to the DFG are requested to observe the notices on site.
