Flood and Heavy Rain Preparedness Concept: Workshop for Industry and Business Operators on July 29

As part of the development of the flood and heavy rain prevention concept (HSVK), the state capital Saarbrücken invites interested parties from industry and businesses to a workshop at the municipal Central Municipal Disposal Company (ZKE) on Wednesday, July 29.

The event takes place from 9 to 11 a.m. in the large meeting room (Room 3.41) of the ZKE administration building at Gaschhübel Street 1. Registration at
www.saarbruecken.de/starkregenkonzept is required by Friday, July 24.

Share experiences and contribute ideas

Mayor Uwe Conradt: “To prepare the flood and heavy rain prevention concept, workshops for citizens will take place from September in all Saarbrücken city districts.
Since heavy rain affects us all, the perspectives and needs of businesses and industries in Saarbrücken are also important for a holistic concept. Especially the personal experiences from recent heavy rain events and suggestions for improvement
are valuable and welcome for the development of the concept. Because only ideas and feedback that reach us can ultimately be considered. We therefore look forward to active participation and a constructive exchange.”

Commercial and Industrial Location Saarbrücken in Focus

The concept should include proposed measures of a structural and organizational nature, which will be specified and prioritized during the development of the concept. To achieve the best possible outcome, not only the ideas of the engineering firm commissioned with the concept development, but also the perspectives and interests of the commercial and industrial location Saarbrücken should be taken into account.

The workshop is intended to identify and analyze potential hazards together with representatives from trade and industry, and to plan and implement appropriate protective measures as well as a possible adjustment of the infrastructure in the state capital. The goal is to sustainably reduce damage in industrial, public, and private environments.

Schedule of the event on July 29

Representatives of the office eepi GmbH, commissioned with the concept development, introduce themselves and explain their respective contributions to the concept. As part of a presentation by eepi GmbH, those present gain insight into the flood and heavy rain preparedness concept.

Afterwards, there is an opportunity to contribute questions and ideas. Submitted proposals will be taken up by the engineering firm involved, subjected to a cost-benefit analysis, and then examined to determine whether they are feasible and can be incorporated into the precautionary concept.

Cooperation with engineering office and funding by the state

In the creation of the flood and heavy rain precaution concept, the state capital Saarbrücken is working together with the engineering office eepi GmbH. Prior to this, it already received support from the International Coordination Center for Flood Partnerships. The Saarland Ministry of Environment, Climate, Mobility, Agriculture and Consumer Protection bears 90 percent of the costs for the concept.
