That the so-called tax reform of the black-red federal government is only a summer patch, the FDP Saar had to acknowledge right after its presentation. The alleged savings of 10 billion euros correspond to the proverbial drop in the ocean.
The assessment by the Free Democrats has now been thoroughly confirmed by a study from the German Economic Institute (Source: Wirtschaftswoche). According to this study, simply no one benefits from the so-called tax reform. No one! According to the IW, there is no improvement for any taxpayer. If the government had refrained from its little reform and only compensated for cold progression, every taxpayer would have come out ahead. An embarrassing result for the government. To put things into the right perspective: the predecessors of Finance Minister Klingbeil (SPD), regardless of which party they belonged to, have compensated for cold progression. Klingbeil does not care about this – he is not legally obliged to do so.
“The CDU came with the promise to reward performance and to relieve citizens and businesses from taxes. What came out is the opposite. Whoever does not even fully compensate for bracket creep accepts creeping tax increases through inflation. This is not a new beginning, but a breach of central election promises,” explains Jorgo Chatzimarkakis for the FDP Saar.
For Merz, the entire tax and debt policy follows Adenauer’s premise, ‘What do I care about my yesterday’s talk?’ The state chairwoman of the FDP Saar, Angelika Hießerich-Peter, can only shake her head about this: “The CDU passively accepts the SPD’s complete occupation of tax policy. In addition, a ‘necessary’ VAT increase is already waiting just around the corner. When Klingbeil says he ‘cannot rule it out,’ it effectively amounts to an announcement.” This policy comes at the worst time for Saarland. While the industrial base is under pressure and thousands of jobs are fighting for a future perspective, the country needs more entrepreneurial freedom, more investment, and more net income from gross – not new burdens.
For the FDP Saar top team it is clear: citizens, small businesses, and industry deserve a better government. Above all, the Merz government completely lacks respect for the hardworking people, for those who keep things running!
