Press Release 71/2026
Slope stabilization work on the L 170 in full swing –
Accelerating the opening
The slope stabilization work on the L 170 between Wallerfangen and Dillingen has begun. Since Monday, June 29, 2026, the foundations for the new protective fence system have been excavated first. According to the current status, the first section between Wallerfangen and Dillingen can likely be reopened to traffic by the end of October 2026. This means the opening is expected to take place about a year earlier than initially assumed.
The closure of the L 170 is a significant burden for the people in the region. Therefore, in the joint coordination group "Traffic Safety L 170," all procedures that could be expedited both professionally and legally were accelerated. The goal of all parties involved is to make the road passable again as quickly as possible. However, a reliable stabilization of the slope remains a prerequisite. Given the existing risks to life and limb, a simple warning notice cannot replace proper slope stabilization.
The coordinating group consists of the Ministry for Environment, Climate, Mobility, Agriculture and Consumer Protection, the Saarlouis district, the affected municipalities, and the state road construction authority working closely together.
The work is progressing between Wallerfangen and Dillingen towards Brückenstraße. During the construction period, the city of Dillingen will also carry out asphalt work on Brückenstraße. As part of the slope stabilization work, the renovation of the road surface is also planned. Furthermore, the work will be coordinated with the company Creos.
The costs for the fence construction currently amount to around 2.5 million euros. Planning for the next section towards the Dillingen Mitte junction and Rehlingen is ongoing. The remediation concept is expected to be completed by summer 2027. After that, the impact assessment and the necessary approval steps will follow.
