26.06.2026 City of Völklingen – Press Release No. 110/2026 New City Office Officially Opened: Contact Point for Ideas, Exchange, and Projects in Downtown Völklingen The new City Office at Rathausstraße 28 was officially inaugurated on Wednesday with an opening event. Mayor Stephan Tautz welcomed the guests – including Leander Wappler from the Saarland Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) and Petra Westerkamp representing the Völklingen Business Circle – and expressed his pleasure at the further revitalization of Rathausstraße: “With the City Office, we are creating an open meeting place for everyone who wants to contribute ideas, projects, and commitment to the development of our downtown area. Every additional use helps to fill our city center with life and activity.” Project manager Rabea Hoffmann then presented her work as well as the planned projects and event formats. The goal of the funding initiative is to set new impulses for the city center, enhance the quality of stay, and strengthen the networking of trade, culture, clubs, and other downtown stakeholders. The first major event, “City Bingo,” will start during the summer holidays. For ten days, this format connects trade, culture, and city life, offering participants the chance to win attractive prizes. Additionally, various artistic and cultural performances will take place throughout the city center during the event period. Furthermore, more events and participation formats are planned to bring people together and strengthen the downtown area as a space for experience and meeting – including a Halloween late-night shopping event and an interactive hiking trail in the city center. Stefan Georg, deputy chairman of the KulturGut Völklingen association, also introduced the association’s activities in the new premises. The association already uses the City Office for regular creative and meeting offerings such as the “Mesh Meetup” – which will take place monthly after the summer break – as well as exhibitions by regional artists. This is already bringing the office to life and establishing it as a cultural meeting point downtown. Currently, there is an exhibition by the artist Denys Kovalenko on display. Interested visitors are warmly invited to visit the exhibition during the City Office’s opening hours until 20 July. The City Office also offers a pop-up shelf as a presentation and sales space for founders, business owners, and artists. They can temporarily present their products there to draw attention to their offerings. At present, SV Röchling and the KulturGut association have products on display. The funding project “Vibrant Downtown – Creative Formats for a Strong City” is supported within the framework of the program “Trade in Saarland – Future Concept 2030” by the Ministry of Economy, Innovation, Digitalization, and Energy of Saarland. The City Office is open to citizens, business owners, clubs, and other interested parties. Regular office hours with project manager Rabea Hoffmann take place on Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Additionally, individual appointments can be arranged. The office is intended to serve in the future as a central contact point for ideas, questions, and projects related to downtown Völklingen and to bring together people who want to actively participate in its development. At the same time, it helps to revitalize vacancies with new uses and to further develop the downtown area as a lively place of exchange, culture, and social interaction.
