Learn German playfully: Language camp of the Bildungswerkstatt Kirchberg enters its ninth round
The language camp of the
Bildungswerkstatt Kirchberg will take place for the ninth time during the summer holidays 2026.
From Monday, June 29th to Friday, July 17th, 60 students from Wallenbaum Elementary School, Kirchberg Elementary School, and the Rastpfuhl Full-Day Elementary School will receive intensive German support on five mornings each week. The aim of the proven cooperative project in the Malstatt district is to playfully improve the language skills of children learning German as a second language and to prepare them linguistically for the upcoming school year.
The educational concept relies on the proven tandem principle: children learn in small groups. They are supported by professional language development teachers as well as students from Saarland University. These students, in turn, gain practical teaching experience in the field of German as a second language. Language support is not provided through traditional frontal teaching, but through everyday and practice-oriented learning activities that encourage participation and experimentation.
Applying the knowledge through the supporting program
The language support is complemented by a varied program that offers children numerous opportunities to apply and strengthen their language skills in everyday life.
This year, participants can expect creative projects in collaboration with local artists and excursions to the Malstatt cultural and reading hub, including Kamishibai readings. Kamishibai is a form of Japanese paper theater. During rickshaw rides through the neighborhood, children can directly apply the vocabulary they have learned in real-life situations. This offer is carried out in cooperation with the General German Bicycle Club (ADFC) Saar, as it was last year.
The Language Camp of the Bildungswerkstatt
The Language Camp was established in 2020 as a summer camp to counteract the pandemic-related challenges in the education sector. It has meanwhile established itself as a fixed component of the social and educational-political landscape in Malstatt and is also requested by other municipalities as a model project.
The organizer of the project is the Bildungswerkstatt Kirchberg in cooperation with the Kultur- und Lesetreff Malstatt, Zukunftsarbeit Moldschd (ZAM), InfoLab Saar, and ADFC Saar.
The language camp is sponsored by the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Saarland and supported by the ME Saar Foundation.
