The municipality of Nalbach and energis GmbH have signed a cooperation agreement for fiber optic expansion in the districts of Nalbach and Piesbach. With the agreement, both partners lay the foundation for a powerful and future-proof digital infrastructure. The municipal council of Nalbach had already unanimously passed the corresponding resolution at its public meeting on April 29, 2026.
Together for fast internet of the future With the planned expansion, the municipality of Nalbach aims to provide citizens and local businesses with access to a modern fiber optic infrastructure.
Fiber optic connections are considered an important prerequisite for the digital development of municipalities and provide the basis for applications such as home office, digital learning, streaming, and smart building technology.
Demand aggregation decides on the expansion Whether the fiber optic expansion in the districts of Nalbach and Piesbach will be implemented depends on the participation of the residents. As part of a so-called pre-marketing phase, at least 30 percent of the households in the respective districts must choose a fiber optic product from energis.
Once this quota is reached, energis will begin expanding the fiber optic network. For all citizens who sign a fiber optic contract during the pre-marketing period, the fiber optic home connection will be installed free of charge.
“With our expansion concept, we want to enable the local people to access the most modern internet technology available,” explains Michael Dewald, Managing Director of energis GmbH. “The more citizens participate, the faster the path to a digital future can be taken together.”
Official project launch at the Peter-and-Paul Market The official starting signal for the fiber optic project will be given on July 7, 2026, as part of the Peter-and-Paul Market in Nalbach. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the energis mobile consultation unit will be available near the Volksbank for questions about the expansion project and the products offered.
At 11:30 a.m., the official opening of the pre-marketing phase will take place together with representatives of the municipality and energis.
Interested citizens can already decide on a fiber optic contract from this day onward. The contract will, of course, only come into effect once the required participation rate has been reached and energis has constructed the fiber optic network.

In particular, customers of Deutsche Glasfaser, whose expansion projects have not yet been implemented in Nalbach and Piesbach, can receive extensive information from the employees of energis.
In this context, the energis trust guarantee applies: If there is already a contract with Deutsche Glasfaser, energis ensures on behalf of the customers that this contract is fully terminated before a new contract with energis takes effect. There will be no double payment.
Transparency for citizens The municipality and energis also point out that currently some other telecommunications providers are actively marketing contracts. In some cases, this may give the impression that an existing fiber optic connection to the building is already being used.
Citizens should therefore carefully check which technology is actually being offered before concluding a new telecommunications contract. If the required quota is reached and the fiber optic network is built by energis, it will initially be available exclusively to
Fiber optic customers of energis are available.
The municipality of Nalbach and energis therefore recommend getting comprehensive advice before making a contractual decision and taking advantage of the information services offered during the pre-marketing phase.
Digitalization as a Future Task With this cooperation, the municipality of Nalbach and energis set a joint signal for the digital future of the community. The expansion of modern fiber optic infrastructure increases the value of real estate, strengthens the location by creating the conditions for powerful digital supply for the coming decades.
By signing preliminary contracts, the citizens can now decide for themselves whether the fiber optic expansion in Nalbach and Piesbach should take place. All citizens are invited to inform themselves comprehensively.
