Next week, the Special Olympics will make Saarland the region of sports and lived inclusion.
The Protestant Church invites athletes, participants, and fans of the Special Olympics, as well as all interested parties, to be accompanied by God's blessing throughout the event – with a church service before the athletes' disco on Wednesday evening, June 17, in St. Johann.
The sermon will be delivered by the sports commissioner of the Evangelical Church in Germany, Präses Dr. Thorsten Latzel. Additionally, athletes will have their say.
Attached you will find a press release with a request for consideration – combined with a warm invitation to report.
Photos of the Präses can be found in the media center of the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland.

Worship service for the Special Olympics in Saarland
Motto: Tailwind from above
Saarbrücken. On the occasion of the Special Olympics – National Games in Saarland, a church service will take place on Wednesday, June 17th at 7 p.m. at the Evangelical Community Center Alte Kirche (Ev.-Kirch-Straße 27) in Saarbrücken-St. Johann. Athletes, participants, and fans of the Special Olympics are invited to receive God's blessing to accompany them throughout the tournament.
The sermon at the service will be delivered by Präses Dr. Thorsten Latzel (Protestant Church in the Rhineland), the sports representative of the Evangelical Church in Germany, on the theme "Courage, Strength, and Tailwind from Above: With my God, I can leap over walls (Psalm 18:30)." Additionally, athletes from Lebenshilfe Obere Saar will speak for themselves. In interviews, they will share the sources of their strength. Other participants include Constanze Göbel (Working Group Church and Sport Saar / Special Olympics), Christof Olbrich (Special Olympics), and Jasmin Westrich (Lebenshilfe Obere Saar). Sophia Brandt and Bettina Nonnweiler will provide musical accompaniment on the piano.
The service is inclusive: The community center is accessible without barriers. All texts are written in plain language. A sign language interpreter will translate speeches and music into sign language.
Following the church service, the Special Olympics athletes' disco will take place opposite the community center at Tblisser Square.
