Good day,
Attached is a press release from the city of St. Ingbert with a request for publication.
Exchange on the Future of St. Ingbert Station
At a joint meeting at St. Ingbert station, representatives from the city of St. Ingbert, Deutsche Bahn, as well as from federal and state politics exchanged views on the further development of the station and its surroundings. The focus was on future prospects, safety, cleanliness, and quality of stay.
The meeting was attended by Esra Limbacher, Member of the German Bundestag, Ismail Ertug, Corporate Representative of Deutsche Bahn, Daniel Große, Assistant to the Corporate Representative, Jennifer Sauer, Head of Saarbrücken Station Management, Sevim Kaya-Karadağ, Member of the State Parliament, Mayor Dr. Ulli Meyer, District Chairwoman Irene Kaiser, as well as Franziska Fiack, Head of the Department of Security and Civil Protection.
The train station is an important transport hub for St. Ingbert and at the same time a central gateway to the city. It plays a significant role for commuters, visitors, and in the future also for other user groups in the vicinity of the station. Against this background, there is a shared interest in further developing the location and making the station environment more attractive.
In the conversation, it became clear that both the city of St. Ingbert and Deutsche Bahn are aware of the existing challenges. These mainly include issues related to structural development, possible uses of the station building, as well as cleanliness and safety in the surrounding area. The quality of stay and the perception of the station as a gateway to the city were also discussed.
The city recalled the multiple offers to lease the station from DB at a symbolic price in order to be able to manage development on site. Unfortunately, the railway company has so far declined this. The city also made it clear that it wants to actively accompany the further development of the station and participate in the process. Deutsche Bahn also indicated its willingness to engage in talks and referred to ongoing assessments and possible development steps. The goal is to explore realistic prospects and jointly examine which improvements can be implemented in the future.
“The renovation of the St. Ingbert train station is of central importance to our city. Even today, the station is an important arrival point – and with SV Elversberg’s rise to the Bundesliga, St. Ingbert will become the gateway to the region for many visiting football fans, accompanied by the corresponding shuttle service. At the same time, due to the establishment of the CISPA Research Center and the CISPA Innovation Campus, more than 2,500 people will work in the immediate vicinity of the station in the future and use the train as public transportation. This applies to all of them: the first impression lasts. The station is the face of our city,” emphasized Mayor Dr. Ulli Meyer during the conversation, underlining the importance of the St. Ingbert station.
The city and the railway want to continue the dialogue and coordinate the next steps. The appointment is intended to be another impetus to jointly focus on the future of the St. Ingbert station.
