“Äänfach mo mache!” is the theme that is at the center of this year's tenth Saarland Dialect Prize.
Those who know us Saarlanders know that we do not hesitate for long: We get things done. And that is why this topic fits the Saarland mentality all too well. It describes a mix of down-to-earthness, warmth, and pragmatism.
„Äänfach mo mache!“ means: not „to chat“, but to act. „That won’t work“ is rarely said here. People support each other, rely on solidarity, and get things done together without much talk, simply: „Äänfach mo mache!“
For this year's dialect prize, entries in Moselle or Rhine Franconian can be submitted as poetry and short texts, prose, or as dialect songs. There are cash prizes and artistically designed works to be won, such as the “Wendalinusstein” from the Ames carpentry workshop, provided by the district of Sankt Wendel, the “Völklinger Platt,” a handcrafted bronze figure by the Dutch artist Corry Ammerlaan-van Niekerk, provided by the VHS Völklingen, or the SR 3 speaker, created by the wood artist Benedikt Bohlinger, provided by SR 3 Saarlandwelle. The deadline for submissions is Monday, September 30.
The Saarland Dialect Award is an initiative of the city of Völklingen, SR 3 Saarlandwelle, the district of Sankt Wendel, and the Ministry of Education and Culture Saarland, supported by the Sparkassen Finance Group. The award ceremony will take place on Thursday, November 5th, at 7:00 p.m. in the Large Broadcasting Hall at the Halberg.
The award is given every two years.
