New federal authority for Saarland: decision made for conscription center in Saarlouis
This creates a new federal agency for Saarlouis and the Saarland.
Around 50 additional soldiers will strengthen the Bundeswehr location Saarland here in the future.
The two CDU members of the Bundestag from Saarland, Philip Hoffmann and Roland Theis, welcome the decision of the Federal Ministry of Defence for Saarlouis:
"We are very pleased that a new federal agency, the Musterungszentrum, is coming to the city of Saarlouis and will further strengthen the Bundeswehr location there with around 50 additional soldiers. As one of 24 centers throughout Germany, it will play an important role in the region for the future recruitment of young people for our Bundeswehr. It is good news that the Ministry of Defense has chosen Saarlouis as a traditional location, which stands for the strong connection of the people of Saarland with our armed forces. The dedication and good cooperation of Saarlouis' Mayor Marc Speicher were decisive for this success."
Roland Theis, himself a member of the Defence Committee, adds:
“Crucial for the success of the Bundeswehr in finding young people who want to serve the security of their country are the region's connection to the troops and also the attractiveness of the recruitment centers. Both are present in Saarlouis. Therefore, the city is the right place for it!”
Philip Hoffmann, directly elected constituency representative for Saarlouis:
„I am very pleased that it has been possible to bring this federal commitment to our region. This is a good decision for Saarlouis and the Bundeswehr!”
Marc Speicher, Mayor of Saarlouis:
"It is a great success that this new federal authority will not be headquartered in Rhineland-Palatinate, as was initially feared, but will be responsible from Saarlouis, including parts of the Eifel and the Palatinate. I thank my team at the town hall for finding suitable locations in Saarlouis on such short notice and for initiating everything necessary to establish this important federal authority in Saarlouis. Saarlouis is the only city in Germany where soldiers are honorary citizens, and we are a born garrison town. We are now continuing this tradition locally for the future. It is a good decision by the federal government, and I thank Roland Theis as a member of the Defense Committee and Philip Hoffmann as the Saarlouis constituency representative for making this joint success possible."
