Platt in the House Saargau with Coffee and Cake on May 31
Under the title "Reading and Chansons in Saarland Dialect," Jean-Louis Kieffer, Edwin Bohlinger, and Johannes Berrar invite you on Sunday, May 31, 2026, to a very special afternoon at the Museum Haus Saargau in Wallerfangen-Gisingen. From 4 p.m., the atmospheric gathering – weather permitting – will take place in the fragrance and spice garden of the Lorraine farmhouse. Delicious treats, including coffee and cake from the Saargau Café and shop, will not be missing.
Edwin Bohlinger is a native Saarlander and at the same time has long been a resident of Berlin by choice, so he basically has two homes. Despite many years in the capital, "the Sprooch" has never left him. Johannes Berrar from Überherrn has been a guitar player for 40 years. He is dedicated to the blues and ultimately ended up with "Jatz," "because the music is created at the moment you play." Jean Louis Kieffer still lives today in the small village of Filstroff on the Nied near Bouzonville, in close proximity to the Saarland community of Niedaltdorf. His love for the dialect never lets him go; as a dialect author, he fights for the preservation of Moselle Franconian (Lothringer Platt), which was frowned upon in school during his youth. He has been active as an author since 1985 and is a founding member and president of the association Gau un Griis, which works across borders to preserve the Franconian language, following the motto: "Schwätze platt c’est chic!".
Admission to the event is free. Visitors can use the nearby Gisingen hiking parking lot (for navigation: Gaustraße 46), about a 5-minute walk from Haus Saargau. For more information about the Haus Saargau Museum visit www.rendezvous-saarlouis.de or call 06837 – 91 27 62. Haus Saargau is open Monday to Wednesday, Sundays and public holidays from 2 to 5 PM, as well as Thursdays and Fridays from 10 AM to 12 PM. Admission is free.
