Numerous interested guests came to the event at the clubhouse of the Riding and Driving Club "Auf der Höh" and were warmly welcomed by Cornelia Rohe, culture manager, and Norbert Müller-Adams, president of the HuVV.
The origin of the book and its connection to previous dialect publications were the focus of the introduction. Klaus Puhl, who wrote many of the short stories and also shaped the book, significantly influenced the way the dialect was rendered in written form. He explained how the vowel spellings are to be understood and where the difficulties lie in adequately representing the spoken word. Explanations of earlier dialect-related publications were presented by Norbert Müller-Adams. He addressed the works of Hermann Kerpen and Josef Sander. Special mention was made of the works of Hermann Kerpen and Josef Sander. Significant contributions were also made by the collections of Ludwig Warken, Therese Warken, Alfons Massonne, and Klaus Mayer, which were made available to the current author by Elmar Warken, the grandson of Klaus Mayer. In this context, a special welcome was extended to Josef Thönes, who not only contributed to Ludwig Warken’s collection in earlier years but also actively participated in the editorial team of this newly published book.
Afterwards, Rita Fritz read one of her stories aloud, and Josef Thönes and Klaus Puhl also recited a small selection of Saarwellingen sayings to give the audience a preview of the interesting book. To conclude, Ralf Obertreis gave a brief insight into the life of his great-grandfather, Nikolaus Hessedenz, known as "Hauser Nikel," from whom two contributions made their way into the book - "The Matzen of Saarwellingen" and "The Nicknames of Saarwellingen".
The aim of the book is to keep the Wellinger dialect alive and to reintegrate it more strongly into everyday life.
The work, available at the information desk in Saarwellingen Town Hall for €12, is an exceptional gift – not only for Freemen and Furtgezoene, but especially for those who have stayed at home.
