Starting January 1, 2025, the Germany ticket (and thus also the job ticket and the young people’s ticket) will be recognized as the sole travel ticket on all cross-border bus and train lines of local transport between Germany and Luxembourg. This is made possible within the framework of the "TicketDeLux" project, which is funded with 246,740 euros by the European cooperation program “Interreg Greater Region 2021-2027” through the development concept Upper Moselle Valley (EOM). This pilot project has a duration of 17 months.
„The Deutschland-Ticket is gradually becoming the Europe-Ticket,“ says Mobility Minister Petra Berg. „The recognition in the entire local transport between Germany and Luxembourg represents a significant added value, especially in our region. In Saarland alone, seven cross-border bus lines are available to citizens at frequent intervals.“
The Germany ticket is already valid for cross-border train traffic as well as on the cross-border lines of the Trier Regional Transport Association (VRT) between Germany and Luxembourg. Buses of the Luxembourg RGTR lines (Régime Général des Transports Routiers) operating in Germany currently still apply the purely Luxembourgish RegioZonen fare.
From January 1, 2025, the 14 Luxembourg RGTR lines operating between Germany and Luxembourg can initially be used with the Germany Ticket for the duration of the project until May 2026. This concerns the following RGTR lines in Saarland: 401, 402, 403, 404, 405, 407, and 592.
Provided that this offer is used by as many people from Saarland as possible, the Saarland state government aims for the permanent recognition of the D-Ticket on the RGTR lines.
The line "L40 Saarbrücken Express" is a long-distance connection. Since the Deutschland-Ticket is only valid for local transport, line L40 is not affected by the regulation.
