The Neunkirchen Volunteer Fire Department prevented the fire from spreading through their quick response; however, the apartment is uninhabitable after the fire. Four adults, one child, and a dog, who became homeless due to the fire, are temporarily housed in temporary accommodation provided by the city.
The two Neunkirchen fire districts Innenstadt and Wellesweiler were called to action at 11:36 a.m. with the support of sirens, audible far and wide. A fire in a multi-family house on Schlossstraße had been reported to the Neunkirchen Volunteer Fire Department via emergency call. Upon arrival at the scene, the fire was already clearly visible due to smoke coming from the basement apartment. For a brief moment, there was concern that a woman might still be inside the building. However, this suspicion was not confirmed; the firefighters found the supposed missing person safe and were able to fully concentrate on firefighting. The fire department arrived just in time on Schlossstraße to prevent the fire from spreading from one room to another. Despite the quick intervention by the Neunkirchen firefighters, the apartment suffered significant damage from the fire and especially from the toxic smoke with its soot deposits.
Due to the fire and smoke damage, the basement apartment is temporarily uninhabitable. With the help of the city of Neunkirchen, the five residents – four adults and one child – along with a dog, were temporarily accommodated in emergency housing.
After a little more than an hour, the Neunkirchen volunteer fire department was able to conclude their operation and the emergency personnel from the Neunkirchen-Innenstadt and Wellesweiler fire districts could return. For the duration of the firefighting efforts, Schlossstraße in the area of the incident was closed to traffic by the police.
