In a further statement, the witness indicated that the car, a Peugeot Partner with Luxembourg license plate, had already collided with the central barrier. The informant/witness initially remained behind the Peugeot Partner until a police patrol car from the Merzig police station was able to catch up at the Schwemlingen motorway exit. Since the driver of the fleeing vehicle did not respond to the patrol car's signals to stop, additional police patrol cars were gradually involved in the pursuit. The chase continued along the A8 motorway from Perl to the Dillingen-Mitte exit, then via the L170 to the ARAL gas station in Rehlingen. There, the driver of the car was apprehended after a brief foot chase. He was apparently heavily intoxicated.
The driver is hereby suspected of having committed road traffic hazards during the drive, in addition to driving under the influence.
