Passersby reported visible steam on the Market Place around 21:50 hours. Upon closer inspection, they noticed that a hydrant stand had burst. The hydrant was set up for the Christmas market. Uncontrollable water was flowing out of the hydrant. Due to the strong frost, the water outflow caused a mirror-like road surface in the area of the Market Place and parts of Lindenstraße.
The passersby alerted the firefighters at the equipment house, who were there after their weekly drill.
Two firefighters braved the water fountain and quickly turned off the water supply with a hydrant key. Meanwhile, the fire department secured the mirror-like hazardous area. Afterwards, the municipal service center spread the area extensively.
The police and the city utilities provided support during the operation.
