The project is called "AsAflex," which stands for "Assisted Training Flexible." It involves support and remedial lessons provided by specialist teachers and social educators to reduce language and educational deficits. This takes place in small groups or, if needed, in individual support sessions.
To gain more practical experience, about 20 young people from the region recently visited the Student and Research Center in St. Ingbert. In the student laboratories there, the trainees can try out experiments together with knowledgeable supervisors and learn through practice. Over four Saturdays, the focus is on building a lithium battery and a capacitor. Sarah Lehnert and Sabrina Höllkriegel, the two supervisors of the young people, are pleased that the young adults, who are not yet allowed to get hands-on experience in companies everywhere, gain a deeper insight into the subject in this way. "Theory is all well and good," explains Rolf Hempelmann from the Student Research & Technology Center St. Ingbert (SFTZ), "but the young people really learn only when they try something themselves."
The first session was a complete success. "The young people liked it very much, everyone was enthusiastically involved, and the feedback from the participants was very positive," said the supervisors. In addition to imparting practical and theoretical knowledge, topics such as teamwork and communication from the socio-pedagogical field were also addressed.
