The honorary fire chief and senior fire officer Hans-Jürgen Bartels passed away on June 20, 2022, at the age of 81.
Hans-Jürgen Bartels was a member of the Hassel fire district for over 64 years. After the founding of the Hassel youth fire brigade in 1972, he was the first youth leader.
From 1975 to 1987, he served as the city youth warden, and from 1983 to 1990 as the fire district leader in Hassel. In 1987, the Hassel resident was appointed deputy fire chief, and in 1990 he was appointed fire chief of the St. Ingbert Fire Department. He held this position until the year 2000. Subsequently, he was appointed honorary fire chief.
In addition, Hans-Jürgen Bartels was also involved in the district fire brigade association, of which he was a founding member.
"Hans-Jürgen Bartels has dedicated himself with great passion over decades to the protection and welfare of the population. For this, he was awarded, among other honors, the German Fire Brigade Honor Cross in Gold. The St. Ingbert fire department is not only losing a colleague but a good comrade and friend," said Mayor Dr. Ulli Meyer.
The city of St. Ingbert will honor his memory and remember him with gratitude. The funeral will take place on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at 2 p.m. at the Hassel cemetery.
