Since last week (week 22), the traffic police have been intensifying checks on mopeds again. During several controls in the Beckingen and Saarlouis areas, the officers found numerous violations that resulted in administrative offense reports. However, even the experienced traffic police officers were astonished during two inspections. A 17-year-old from Völklingen had technically modified his moped so that it achieved an output of 12.4 kW (16 hp) on the dynamometer and a top speed of 100.4 km/h. Since the moped certificate is no longer sufficient to operate this vehicle due to the technical modifications, the young man faces several charges, including an investigation for driving without a license. In Beckingen, a 22-year-old from a district of Beckingen had modified his moped to reach a top speed of 84.9 km/h. This young man also faces a criminal complaint. Additionally, his moped was uninsured and displayed a license plate not issued for his vehicle.
