On 24.07.2026, at around 11:32 a.m., a fire broke out in a restaurant in the Breite Straße area of Saarbrücken-Malstatt. Upon receiving the report of open flames inside the restaurant premises, several police and fire department units immediately responded to the scene. The firefighters began extinguishing the fire and conducting rescue operations right away, while the police secured the area and implemented traffic control measures. The fire brigade was able to rescue a female resident from an apartment located above the restaurant. She sustained minor injuries due to smoke inhalation and was taken to a hospital in Saarbrücken for further examination. No other persons were present in their apartments. All employees of the restaurant were able to leave the premises independently. No information on the cause of the fire can be provided at this time; investigations are still ongoing. Likewise, no details on the extent of the damage are currently available. During the operation, Breite Straße at the Brückenstraße junction had to be completely closed for about an hour. Afterwards, traffic could flow in a single lane in the direction of Saarbrücken before firefighting efforts were completed after about two hours and full traffic was restored. In total, four police teams, two fire brigades of the Saarbrücken professional fire department, three ambulances, one emergency doctor, and the organizational leader of the emergency medical service were on site.
