Night Fishing at the Saar Old Arm
From July 27 to September 30, 2026, fishing during nighttime at the Saar Old Arm in Saarlouis is permitted again on all weekdays from 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM. However, fishing is only allowed for catfish during this time. Both natural and artificial baits may be used, and the use of dead baitfish is also permitted. These must, however, originate from the water body where the fishing is carried out. If a fish of another species is caught, it must be promptly and gently released from the hook and, if possible, returned alive to the fishing waters.
Separate permits for night fishing will not be issued; all anglers who possess a valid permit are allowed to participate in night fishing. Each night angler must keep a catch record, which must be made available to the local police authority Saarlouis after the measure ends.
The catches reported last year show that an enormous stock of very large catfish has developed in the Saar Old Arm. Several animals larger than 1.50 m were caught, with the largest catfish measuring almost 1.70 m. Such large fish are still present, ensuring an exciting fishing experience. All anglers are wished much success, not least in the interest of a balanced fish population in the Saar Old Arm.
