City uses summer holidays for extensive renovations at schools

The city of St. Ingbert is using the teaching-free period again this year to carry out numerous renovation and modernization works in the municipal schools. Measures that would significantly disrupt school operations can thus largely be implemented during the summer holidays. Overall, the city is investing around 1.2 million euros in its school buildings this summer.

At Eisenberg School, the girls' toilet facility will be completely renovated for around 110,000 euros. The toilet room with six toilets and the anteroom with two washbasins will be renewed. The boys' WC facility had already been modernized last year. Individual final works, including cladding the walls with wooden panels and sealing the floor, will be carried out after the holidays.

In addition, the old floor tiles in four classrooms will be completely removed and replaced with new PVC flooring. The costs for this amount to around 22,000 euros. The city is investing a further 65,000 euros in twelve new fire protection doors for classrooms. The self-closing doors are controlled by smoke detectors in the event of a fire. Overall, around 197,000 euros will be invested in Eisenberg School.

The Südschule will also be prepared for the new school year. The four rooms that will be used by the new first-grade classes after the summer holidays will receive soundproof ceilings. Around 55,000 euros are planned for these works.

At Pestalozzi School, the soundproof ceiling in the rooms of the voluntary all-day school will be renewed. The previous panels will be replaced by new open-pored soundproof panels and supplemented by individual wall absorbers. The costs for this amount to around 15,000 euros. Additionally, the corridors and plinths of the gymnasium will receive a new coat of paint. In the old building, the corridors on the ground and upper floors will also be freshly painted.

The largest construction site during the summer holidays is at Albert Weisgerber School. There, the facade will be comprehensively renovated and will receive new plaster as well as a new coat of paint. In addition, around 200 windows with integrated sun protection in the panes will be installed. The windows on the side facing the schoolyard were already replaced last year.

Alone for the new windows, around 530,000 euros are planned. Added to this are the costs for scaffolding as well as plastering and painting work. Including further necessary works, the investment volume at Albert Weisgerber School amounts to around one million euros.

Normally, the city invests between 100,000 and 200,000 euros in renovating its schools during the summer holidays. Due to the major project at Albert Weisgerber School, the total volume is significantly higher this year.

So that the work can be planned in time and the required specialist companies can be commissioned early, the municipal building management queries the schools at the beginning of each year about which measures are to be implemented during the summer holidays. This process creates planning security and helps to complete as many works as possible during the teaching-free time.
