Free Guided Tour for Senior Citizens through the World Heritage Site
Völklinger Hütte
The City of Völklingen invites senior citizens to a free guided tour
through the World Heritage Site Völklinger Hütte. The event will take place on Tuesday,
August 18, 2026.
Meeting point is at 9:30 a.m. at the main entrance of the World Heritage Site Völklinger Hütte.
The tour starts at 10 a.m. and lasts about 1.5 to 2 hours.
During the tour, participants will gain fascinating insights into the history of the former ironworks.
From the blower hall to the blast furnace, they will learn how pig iron was produced and how people
used to work there. The expert guided tour provides information about one of the most important
industrial monuments in Europe and the history of the region. This free offer is made possible by funds
from the Regional Association Saarbrücken, which were made available for visiting the Völklinger
World Heritage Site on the initiative of Mayor Stephan Tautz.
After the tour, there is the possibility to visit the current X-Ray exhibition
on the site independently and without a guide.
Participation is free of charge. As the number of places is limited, prior
registration is required.

The Regional Association provides funds for this and similar events and projects
to support the social participation of senior citizens.
