On Wednesday (22.07.2026) around 6:15 p.m., the Federal Police, as part of a joint control operation with the Saarland State Police and the Gendarmerie Nationale to combat cross-border crime, checked a car coming from France at the Naßweiler border crossing.
The 22-year-old French national presented a valid French identity card. The check of his identity revealed an active arrest warrant due to a fraud offense. The arrest warrant was served on him: he had been sentenced to a fine of 1441.50 euros plus 91.50 euros procedural costs or 45 days substitute imprisonment.
The 22-year-old Frenchman was initially unable to pay the amount to avoid detention in full on site – a friend of the young man, contacted by phone, ultimately lent him the remaining amount. Thus, the Frenchman was able to continue his trip as a free man around 8:00 p.m.
