Angela Merkel reads from “Freedom.”
With her memoirs “Freedom,” former Chancellor Angela Merkel looks back on an extraordinary life and a formative political career. On Tuesday, September 29, 2026, Angela Merkel will personally read from her book “Freedom” as a guest of the bookstore Bock & Seip and the Saarlouis City Library. The event will take place at the Theater am Ring Saarlouis at 7 p.m. Admission to the venue begins at 6:00 p.m.

She also reports on her 16 years at the helm of the federal government, international crises, landmark decisions, and encounters with the most influential personalities in world politics.
The memoirs, co-written with her longtime political advisor Beate Baumann, offer a rare glimpse behind the scenes of political power and show how decisions are made that have effects far beyond Germany. At the same time, “Freedom” is a personal reflection on responsibility, democracy, and the meaning of freedom in turbulent times.
The evening is organized by the bookstore Bock & Seip together with the Saarlouis City Library. Visitors can look forward to a unique encounter with one of the most important political figures in German post-war history.
