Now new on the market: Issue 30 of the "Waderner Historical Contributions"
For all those looking for exciting reading material for the holiday season, the latest issue of the newsletter series by the Association for Local History Wadern e.V. is highly recommended. The authors devote themselves to a variety of topics surrounding the city history of Wadern and its people.
The "historical contributions" open with an essay by Albert Räsch on the entry of American troops into Wadrill on March 17, 1945. Starting from the beginning of the war in September 1939, the author vividly describes the dramatic events up to Gertraudentag 1945, also relying on eyewitness interviews that today represent a valuable testimony of the local history.
Bernd Schröder focuses on the life and extensive artistic work of the important artist Marianne Aatz from Wadern-Oberlöstern, who passed away in 2024. After a biographical introduction, he examines the theme "Protection of the Environment" in the diverse works of the artist and illustrates the tension-filled relationship between humans and nature depicted by her with numerous illustrations.
Hannes Buchmann presents ground finds from the surroundings of Dagstuhl Castle, which were discovered during excavations between 1984 and 2002 and have now been re-examined under his direction by a student group from Saarland University. They exemplify the castle romanticism of the 19th century, when the famous artist Octavie de Lasalle von Louisenthal set up a studio there around 1840, and show that the ruin was still used as a recreational destination by the local population until the mid-20th century.
Finally, an obituary commemorates the long-time association chairman Friedrich Ebert (*1933), who passed away in April 2025, and honors his extraordinary volunteer commitment and his important contributions to the association.
The "Waderner Historical Contributions" are available for the price of 7 euros each at the Bücherhütte Wadern as well as in the HACO shopping center.
