In view of the currently high temperatures, the police are receiving an increasing number of reports about supposedly helpless wild animals. Out of misplaced compassion for animals, fawns, young birds, or other wild animals are repeatedly taken by walkers in order to save them. The police explicitly warn against this behavior.
Why you should never simply take wild animals with you:
Proper behavior in an emergency:
1. Keep your distance and observe: Let the animal stay in place for now.
2. Prevent immediate danger: If an animal is, for example, lying on the roadway, carefully place it only with plenty of fresh grass (as a protective barrier against human scent) onto the safe, shady roadside.
3. Contact experts: Immediately inform the local police or the responsible gamekeeper. Only they are authorized to decide on further measures or to arrange transport to a specialist station.
Help out – but with prudence and through legally secure means!
