As part of holiday care at the Leibniz Gymnasium in St. Ingbert, the Federal Police Inspectorate Saarbrücken informed students on Wednesday, July 16, 2026, about the dangers of railway traffic. Chief Police Commissioner Eric Finkler, prevention officer of the Federal Police Inspectorate Saarbrücken, vividly explained why railway facilities are not places for playing or lingering and why simply approaching overhead lines with 15,000 volts can already be life-threatening. The long braking distance of trains and their often underestimated silence were also addressed.
The goal of the Federal Police's prevention work is to prevent accidents and to raise early awareness for safe behavior in railway traffic.
Another highlight followed with the demonstration by the service dog handlers and their four-legged colleagues. They provided impressive insights into various operational situations as well as into the training and duties of the service dogs. The demonstration was met with great interest; the students asked numerous questions and followed the event with enthusiasm.
The Federal Police, together with Deutsche Bahn, has been nationwide engaged in prevention events at schools for many years to raise awareness of the special dangers in railway traffic.
