Fire hazard due to heat and dryness in urban cemeteries

In view of the persistently high temperatures and severe dryness, the medium-sized town of St. Ingbert asks all citizens to refrain from lighting grave candles in cemeteries until further notice.

Due to intense sunlight, plastic covers and wax of grave candles can become very hot and, in some cases, catch fire. Because of the currently very dry vegetation, there is a risk that a fire could spread quickly and cause a blaze in the cemetery.

The city therefore asks for understanding and special caution. By temporarily refraining from grave candles, all visitors make an important contribution to protecting the vegetation and preventing fires. Despite announced rain, the high vegetation fire risk level will remain in effect for the next few days.

Once the weather situation eases and the fire danger decreases, grave candles can be used again as usual.
