Wambefeschd 2026 (From August 14 to 17):
Experience tradition – from a completely new perspective!
From August 14 to 17, 2026, the center of Quierschied will once again transform into a lively festival ground full of music, sociability, culinary delights, and fairground excitement. The Wambefeschd is one of the most traditional folk festivals in the region and attracts numerous visitors from Quierschied and beyond every year. This year, too, guests can look forward to a varied program for the whole family.
Wambefeschd 2026 will feature a noticeable innovation in the central event area: For the first time, the festival stage will be set up on the open space in front of the Parish Church of Maria Himmelfahrt. This new location creates a significantly more open event area, allowing more visitors a clear view of the stage and the diverse supporting program.
On Sunday and Monday, the traditional Holy Mass for the patronal festival will also take place on the stage. In a way, this closes a historical circle, as today’s Wambefeschd emerged from the patronal festival of the Church of Maria Himmelfahrt. The return of a central program point directly in front of the church underlines the historical roots of the festival and connects tradition with contemporary festival design.
The name “Wambefeschd” itself tells of the special history of the festival. According to oral tradition, the name goes back to the outstanding offer of culinary delights in Quierschied since time immemorial. Those who enjoyed the many specialties and heavily “wammschte” – that is, thoroughly ate in the good Saarland dialect – often ended up with a substantial “Wambe,” a small prosperity belly. To this day, the Wambefeschd stands for enjoyment, sociability, and hospitality.
The official kick-off will take place on Friday, August 14, at 6:30 p.m. with the traditional keg tapping and the salute shots by the Tell e.V. marksmen’s club. The opening will be carried out by the festival patroness, the Saarland Minister of Education and Culture Christine Streichert-Clivot, together with Mayor Lutz Maurer and local head Stefan Ziegler.
Musically, guests can expect a varied program every festival day, featuring the Quierschied Music Association, the Fischbacher Musicants, as well as the bands “Die Konsorten,” “The Final Heat Band,” and “Dreierpasch.” Additionally, there will be performances by the KV “Quierschder Wambe” e.V. and the Kneipp Association Quierschied, the traditional raffle with attractive prizes, and the ceremonial mothballing of the Wambe by the Club Fröhlichkeit on Monday evening.
The municipality of Quierschied warmly invites all citizens and guests from near and far to experience four joyful days full of encounters, entertainment, and good spirits together.
