Good day,

Attached is a press release from the city of St. Ingbert with a request for publication.

Experience STEM with the whole family – Successful family festival in Rentrisch

Under the motto "Make STEM - Discover, Research and Experience Together," the municipal daycares Am Stiefel and Am Spellenstein in Rentrisch organized a joint family festival, which was entirely dedicated to STEM education (Mathematics, Informatics, Natural Sciences, and Technology). Numerous families took the opportunity to enjoy a varied afternoon full of exciting hands-on activities together.

At the stations, children could playfully discover, experiment, and learn together with their parents. In the mathematics area, a varied number safari awaited the families. Measuring objects and even a tree trunk, weighing different materials, or matching numbers and quantities made mathematical thinking accessible in a child-friendly way. It was particularly creative when jointly designing their own Montessori measuring stick.

In the field of computer science, children were able to gain their first experiences with programming and robotics. In a programming course, parents and children took turns stepping into the roles of programmer and robot and playfully learned how computers process commands. Another station used the so-called "Chinese Room" to explain how artificial intelligence works and where its limits lie. Furthermore, various learning robots like Photon and Cubetto could be tried out. Whether steering through an obstacle course, finding baby animals, or matching emotions – logical thinking, creativity, and the development of problem-solving skills were always at the forefront. Of course, fun was never left out either.

The technology section also generated great enthusiasm among young and old alike. In a green screen studio, imaginative photos and short films were created, while at a stop-motion station, first own animations could be made. Particularly popular was also the pneumatic robotic arm made of wood, with which dexterity and technical understanding were playfully promoted.

In the field of natural sciences, numerous exciting everyday experiments invited participation and hands-on exploration. A special highlight was the visit to the SFTZ at the MINT Campus Alte Schmelz. At the interactive station, the children had the opportunity to conduct fascinating experiments themselves under professional guidance and to discover scientific phenomena in an illustrative way.

The family event demonstrated how STEM education can already be conveyed in kindergarten age with joy, curiosity and shared experiences. The daycare centers Am Stiefel and Am Spellenstein sincerely thank all families, the dedicated staff as well as the cooperation partners: CISPA, Festo, Junger Film and the SFTZ – MINT Campus Alte Schmelz, who enriched the event with informative booths and contributed to the success of the event through their support with donations for the popular wheel of fortune or their visit on site.

An eventful day – for both the children and the adults, who certainly, of course without revealing it, also learned one thing or another.
