On 13.07.2026, at around 09:25 a.m., a traffic accident occurred on the L 223 between Homburg and Bechhofen involving a silver Audi A 4 with Homburg district identification and a Mercedes truck with Kusel district identification. The 66-year-old driver of the Audi, for reasons unknown so far, crossed to the opposite lane in a right-hand curve and collided head-on with the truck driven by a 35-year-old. Both vehicles sustained significant damage. The Audi driver was seriously injured. The truck driver was slightly injured.
At the request of the public prosecutor’s office, an expert report on the evidence was commissioned. The L 223 will remain fully closed at least until 3:30 p.m. for the duration of the accident investigation.
Witnesses who can provide useful information are requested to contact the Homburg police by phone at 06841-1060 or by email at PI-HOM@polizei.slpol.de. Furthermore, the driver of a dark station wagon (manufacturer and license plate unknown), who was driving on L 223 directly in front of the crashed Audi, is asked to report to the local police station – this person could be considered a traffic accident witness.
