On Sunday, 12.07.2026, at around 2:25 p.m., a traffic accident involving two cars occurred on the B 268 between the localities of Britten and Losheim am See. Two people were seriously injured and three people were slightly injured.
According to the current investigation, an 86-year-old driver was driving his car on the B 268 coming from Britten towards Losheim am See. A 52-year-old driver was driving on the federal highway in the opposite direction with his wife and their two children.
At the junction of the L 373, the 86-year-old intended to turn left. In doing so, he overlooked the oncoming car of the 52-year-old, resulting in a collision between the two vehicles.
The collision caused serious injuries to the 86-year-old driver and the 52-year-old passenger. After initial emergency medical treatment, they were transported by the rescue helicopters "Christoph 16" and "Air Rescue 3" to nearby hospitals. The 52-year-old driver and the two children traveling with him sustained minor injuries.
Both vehicles caught fire as a result of the collision and were completely destroyed by fire. The heat caused damage to the road surface over an area of about 60 square meters. The state road authority was notified for assessment and further measures.
The B 268 was fully closed for several hours during the accident investigation, recovery operations, and road cleaning.
An investigation was initiated against the 86-year-old driver on suspicion of negligent bodily injury.
