In the early morning of 07/10/2026, around 6:00 a.m., the Nordsaarland police station was informed about gunshots in Losheim am See, district Bachem. During the subsequent police operation, the origin of the gunshots was located and assigned to a person. A 44-year-old man fired several shots into the air with a blank pistol during a private celebration. During the following search of his apartment, World War II ammunition was found. This afternoon around 4:30 p.m., specialists from the bomb disposal unit of the State Police Directorate had to safely detonate the discovered World War II ammunition. After the ammunition was found, a safe transport was not possible due to its characteristic condition.
The detonation itself proceeded without incident. The site had previously been cordoned off and secured over a wide area. There was never any danger to the public.
Proceedings have been initiated against the 44-year-old man under the Explosives Act and the Weapons Act. Investigations to accurately identify and determine the origin of the ammunition are currently ongoing.
