The Saarland police urgently warn of a current statewide increase in fraud attempts through so-called "shock calls" and "fake police officers." Since this morning, there have already been over 30 attempts across Saarland in the area of "crimes against older people." The police are currently primarily registering cases in the Saarlouis district, where a crime was also completed with the handover of valuables in the lower five-figure range.
In this scam, the callers, for example, pretend to be police officers. Under the pretext that relatives (children, grandchildren) have caused a serious accident and are now in custody, the callers exploit the shock moment of their conversation partners and then demand payment of a corresponding bail to avoid the supposed imprisonment.
