Ongoing dryness increases risk of forest fires – City of St. Ingbert urges special caution
The ongoing drought and high temperatures are currently causing a significantly increased risk of forest and grassland fires. Even a small spark or a brief moment of carelessness can be enough to start a fire. The city of St. Ingbert therefore appeals to all citizens to behave with special caution when staying in forest and green areas.
Most forest fires are caused by human behavior and could be avoided. Dry leaves, grasses, and underbrush can ignite very quickly in the current weather conditions. A fire often spreads within a very short time under these conditions, endangering people, animals, and nature.
The city therefore points out the following rules of conduct:
- Open fires, grilling, and the use of camping or gas stoves in the forest and at forest edges are prohibited.
- Cigarette butts must never be discarded carelessly.
- Vehicles may only be parked in designated parking areas. Hot vehicle parts can ignite dry grass.
- Forest paths and access roads must be kept clear at all times for fire and rescue services.
If you notice smoke or a fire, you should immediately call the emergency number 112, leave the danger area, and, if possible, provide the exact location. The rescue points, which are signposted at many forest access roads, are helpful in this regard.
With mutual consideration and caution, everyone can help prevent forest and vegetation fires and protect the local nature.
