"With great sadness, we say goodbye to Alfred Fuß. He shaped our city for decades as a city council member and later as mayor. Throughout his life, he was closely connected to Saarlouis and his hometown district Roden. Raised in Roden, he remained committed to his place and his city at all times and devoted himself with great personal dedication to the concerns of the people," explains Mayor Marc Speicher
For over 20 years, from 1968 to 1988, Alfred Fuß was a member of the city council of Saarlouis. Subsequently, from 1988 to 2006, he served as mayor for a total of 18 years. During this time, he contributed with high professional competence, a great sense of responsibility, and a distinctly humane leadership style. In his political actions, the focus was always on the people.
Alfred Fuß was a defining and recognized as well as respected figure of social, cultural and political life, especially for the district of Roden. His commitment went far beyond the city administration and was also reflected in his active club work.
"With Alfred, we are losing a dear person who dedicated himself with head, heart, and hand to his city and to his fellow human beings. I have greatly appreciated Alfred for his open, warm, and social nature. His warmth and sociability will personally remain foremost in my memory. Personally and on behalf of many for whom he advocated over the decades of his work, I say a heartfelt thank you and may God repay you. Our city and I personally will cherish Alfred's memory in the best way possible," said Marc Speicher
