This morning (07/08/2026), Saarland police officers were successful in conducting search operations. Following the fire of a large building complex in Saarlouis on the night from Saturday (06/27/2026) to Sunday (06/28/2026), investigators were able to identify two suspects and execute corresponding search warrants.
The major fire in downtown Saarlouis broke out early Sunday morning around 2:20 AM. Two motor vehicles and a large commercial building on Ludwig-Karl-Balzer-Allee were fully engulfed in flames. Over 150 personnel from the fire department, emergency services, and police were on site for several hours until the fire was finally extinguished. According to current estimates, the total damage amounts to several million euros.
Subsequently, the officers of the specialist department for arson at the State Criminal Police Office took over the further investigations. After involving additional experts from the criminal police and conducting extensive examinations to determine the cause of the fire, it was finally established that the fire was apparently deliberately set.
The investigation was therefore continued on suspicion of arson. In close cooperation with the colleagues at the locally responsible police inspection Saarlouis, the investigators of the state criminal police office were ultimately able to identify three people suspected of being responsible for the arson. These are two teenagers from the Saarlouis district.
An application for a residential search at the suspects' premises, submitted by the specialized public prosecutor's office Saarbrücken, was finally issued by an investigating judge at the Saarbrücken District Court and executed this morning. During this operation, the deployed forces were able to secure evidence, which now needs to be analyzed.
Further investigations, especially to identify the third perpetrator, are ongoing. Any clues can be reported to the criminal investigation unit in Saarbrücken at the phone number: 0681/962-2133. The online police station at https://portal.onlinewache.polizei.de/de/ can also be used to submit tips.
