At a waste disposal company in an industrial area in the city of Saarlouis, there was an operational accident on the afternoon of 07.07.2026 at around 4:00 PM. Initial findings indicate that hydrogen sulfide was released inside a closed industrial hall. Two employees of the company were seriously injured as a result of the incident. Due to potential odor nuisance for residents, a warning message was sent out for the Saarlouis city area via the federal Emergency Information and News App (NINA).
The fire department, including the CBRN unit, was deployed and conducted measurements. A danger to the surrounding population can currently be ruled out.
In addition to numerous fire and police forces, the rescue service was deployed with several vehicles and two rescue helicopters.
During the approximately three-hour operation, several roads in the industrial area had to be closed off by the police, resulting in temporary traffic disruptions.
