Survival adventures for the whole family in Kirkel! Friday to Sunday, August 7 to 9 The wilderness is calling – who is ready to answer? Here, the forest in the Bliesgau Biosphere Reserve can be experienced in its most original form: three days and two nights full of nature connection, adventure, and community. In a group, together with three wilderness experts, the teeming life in the Kirkeler forest is discovered and felt. How does one live and, above all, survive in nature? Mindfully, respectfully, and together. Who has never wanted to roam the forest like the Native Americans, learn the language of birds, track the footprints of wild boar, deer, and hare, or light their own campfire to sleep warmly in tents at night? All this and many more secrets of the forest can be experienced and explored from August 7 to 9 at the Palatinate Forest Association House at the Turnplatz in Kirkel with wilderness educator Thomas Stalter and his two fellow wilderness experts from the Wildnisschule Fuchsspur. An Indian ceremony, introduction to wilderness education, and music by the campfire in the evenings are among Thomas Stalter’s repertoire. Together with his wilderness colleagues, he also introduces participants to wilderness equipment. Of course, there will also be trips into the forest to listen to bird language, discover bird feathers and tree species, and learn about edible and poisonous plants. Thomas Stalter and his colleagues also point out possible tracks and animal paths while exploring the forest. They demonstrate how to find emergency food in the forest and how to prepare essential water. Back at the camp at the Palatinate Forest House, the grill and delicious treats are prepared every evening to satisfy everyone. Thomas Stalter and his colleagues affectionately call this the “campfire kitchen,” where everyone can chop and contribute creatively. After the meal, a bow with arrows and edible nettle chips are made on the wild meadow, or participants simply relax in a leafy hut. In the evenings, everyone cozily sits around the campfire. The wilderness experts help participants build a backpack that can also serve as a tent for sleeping and happily play music with a guitar, for example. Nighttime rest in the participants’ own tents begins with darkness. The breakdown of tents on the last day usually goes quickly, and participants return home with a treasure trove of memories. The wilderness camp includes experiential educational supervision every day in the forest as well as care in the camp, all camper tastings from many regional products, materials, and tools, as well as the imparting of sustainability in the biosphere. Overnight stays are in participants’ own tents. The participation fee is 145 euros per adult and 115 euros per child between eight and twelve years old. The meeting point is Friday at 10 a.m. at the Palatinate Forest House in Kirkel at the Turnplatz. The camp ends on Sunday around 4 p.m. Registration is open until August 4.
