Magnus Jung and Sabine Bätzing-Lichtenthäler on the killing of six specialists in a mother-child facility in Stade
In Stade, Lower Saxony, a man shot six professionals in a mother-child facility last Monday. Saarland's Minister for Children and Youth, Magnus Jung, and Rhineland-Palatinate's Minister for Families and Youth, Sabine Bätzing-Lichtenthäler, comment on this:
“This terrible attack in Stade has shaken us and deeply moved us. Six people were torn from life in the prime of their lives. Six people who followed their profession and dedicated themselves daily to helping others, vulnerable people in the most difficult life situations. In this difficult time, our sympathy goes to the relatives of the victims as well as to all those affected.”
These days, we also think of all those who, after the terrible attack in Stade, continue to be there for people in need, even though they themselves regularly face challenging situations in their daily work: social workers, educators, special education teachers – in the entire field of youth welfare.
In addition to empathy, politics and society must now also openly discuss the conditions necessary to ensure that the people who dedicate themselves to others every day can continue to carry out their important work in the best possible way, protected for the future.
