Tholey Herb Market and Monastery Festival
Sunday, July 12, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., around the Town Hall Square and the Benedictine Abbey of St. Mauritius
Tholey. The municipality of Tholey and the Benedictine Abbey of St. Mauritius invite you to the traditional herb market and monastery festival on Sunday, July 12, 2026, in the center of Tholey.
On this day, everything again revolves around the spicy fellows that accompany us daily as flavor enhancers and remedies, but also as fragrances and active ingredients in cosmetics or simply as attractive eye-catchers. Herbs offer many uses. As healing and seasoning plants in the kitchen or home pharmacy, as well as flowering companions in beds or balcony boxes, they are very popular. From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., the Tholey town hall square transforms once again into a large herb garden. This market is a delight for all the senses. Around 35 vendors present a diverse range of herb products such as oils, spices, spirits, floral arrangements, herb books, teas, natural medicines, and honey. Naturally, there are also plenty of herbs and accessories available for purchase. For physical well-being, food trucks with various culinary delights and a beverage stand are ready. The Seniors’ Advisory Board of the municipality of Tholey also offers a colorful participatory program.
The official opening will take place at 11:00 a.m. by the First Deputy of the Municipality of Tholey, Alexander Besch, representing Mayor Andreas Maldener and Abbot Wendelinus on the terrace of the abbey garden. During this event, the new anniversary wine will also be presented, which the Municipality of Tholey, the Benedictine Abbey of Tholey, and the WeinGut Benedict Loosen Erben from Ürzig have released in commemoration of Saint Kuno of Pfullingen, who found his final resting place in the abbey church in the year 1066.
The herb meeting with herb expert Vera Lauck-Schneider starts at 2:00 PM with tastings following the hike. Participation is free of charge. Registration for the herb meeting is requested at the Tholey municipality tourist information office, phone: (06853) 508-66, daily except Tuesdays from 10 AM to 5 PM.
At the same time, the Benedictine Abbey is celebrating its monastery festival in the monastery garden. Musically, from 3 to 5 p.m., the brass ensemble "Blechhaufen" in front of the town hall will perform lively music.
