Fire in blue bin garbage truck – cause: incorrect disposal
During the emptying of the blue bins for waste paper on Friday, June 26, in the Burbach district, a garbage truck of the municipal Central Municipal Waste Disposal Service (ZKE) caught fire.
During the drive, the driver of the garbage truck noticed smoke coming from the cargo area of the vehicle. He reacted quickly and emptied the entire load onto the nearby premises of the waste paper transfer station on "Im Weyerbachtal" street. There, he extinguished the fire independently.
The driver remained unharmed. Thanks to the quick response, the vehicle was also not damaged and was able to continue the tour afterwards. Improperly disposed batteries had caused the fire.
The extinguished waste was loaded into containers and transported away by the ZKE as soon as it was completely cooled down.
The ZKE appeals to users of the Blue Bin to ensure proper filling. Incorrect fillings such as non-emptied gas cylinders, electrical appliances, batteries or accumulators can have devastating consequences for the collection personnel and the vehicle.
What is allowed in the blue bin
Only newspapers, magazines, brochures, catalogs, writing paper, as well as paper and cardboard packaging are allowed in the blue bin.
Wallpaper, hygiene papers, and coated papers must not be placed inside. These belong in the residual waste bin.
