Issued on: 01.07.2026 Press release 97/2026 Inauguration of Johann-Schneider-Platz in Berus – Interior Ministry supported the municipality of Überherrn in redesigning the square with an additional needs allocation of 153,846 euros specifically provided by the ministry for the project. The redesign of Johann-Schneider-Platz modernized and enhanced a central public area in the heart of Berus. The goal of the measure was to improve the quality of stay at the square and to create an attractive meeting place for residents and visitors alike. The redesign thus makes an important contribution to sustainable village development and strengthening the rural area. As part of the project, among other things, lawns and paving stones were used to structure the square's surface, trees and bushes were planted, a barrier-free accessible viewing platform with seating was created, seating walls were erected, and an energy-efficient lighting system was installed. Interior Minister Reinhold Jost emphasized during the inauguration: “Vibrant village centers and modern meeting spaces are crucial for the quality of life in our communities; village squares have always played a major role as they form the hub of social interaction. With the redesigned Johann-Schneider-Platz, Berus accordingly gains an inviting place where the village community can come together to exchange ideas and celebrate. This makes an important contribution to the future viability of Berus.” “Especially in our fast-paced, digital age, real places for communal interaction are essential. They contribute to a harmonious village appearance and a lively village life across all generations,” said Environment Minister Petra Berg. “This strengthens the quality of life and the tourist appeal in rural areas. Unsealed surfaces and shading through plants also support the environment, climate, and biodiversity in the village. An all-around sustainable investment that I gladly support.” The measure was funded with 400,000 euros by the Ministry for Environment, Climate, Mobility, Agriculture and Consumer Protection as part of sustainable village development.
