Next April, Saarland will elect a new state parliament. Last Saturday, the FDP Saar held its state delegate assembly at the Sports Campus of the University to finalize the state list for the state parliament election. The lively event was perceived as either controversial or as a demonstration of vibrant democracy, depending on one's perspective. However, what was decisive is that the top duo proposed by the state executive board, Jorgo Chatzimarkakis and the state chairwoman Angelika Hießerich-Peter, was elected to the first and second positions by the state delegate assembly.
Ralf Armbruster from Blieskastel, who initially applied as a surprise candidate for the top candidacy, secured third place on the state list in a contested vote. The state chairman of the Young Liberals, Julian Brenner, was elected to fourth place without any opposition. Fifth place on the state list went to Patrick Leo, deputy district chairman of Saarbrücken city.
In positions six to ten on the FDP state list are Klaus Kieser, Roland König, Hennig Michel, Jan Reiter, and Willi Zimmerling.
Lead candidate Jorgo Chatzimarkakis emphasized that the FDP is urgently needed in the center to make a decisive contribution to securing the future of Saarland. Especially in view of the radical fringes on the right and left of the party spectrum, both of which want to abandon Saarland’s industrial base. Red-red-green also means the economic end for Saarland. The core issues of the FDP for the state election are education – especially language education, from kindergarten to vocational school – real support for small and medium-sized businesses and industry, and digital sovereignty. Chatzimarkakis said: “Do it! Do what is right!”
